Eavestrough, Soffit & Fascia Transformation in a Barrie Wartime Home

Historic homes carry undeniable charm- but they also bring unique challenges, especially when it comes to aging exterior structures. In this recent project, our Weaver Exterior Remodeling team was called to restore the soffit, fascia and eavestrough system of a wartime home in Barrie that had been heavily damaged.

Before our work began, the home’s soffits were showing severe signs of age- peeling paint, poor ventilation and water damage were all threatening the structure’s integrity (Click here to see before photo).

Our solution? A custom aluminum upgrade that marries performance with curb appeal.

The Challenge: Aging Soffits and Poor Ventilation

When we first assessed the home, we found that the 1” thick wooden soffit panels had no modern ventilation in place. Without proper airflow in the attic, heat and moisture can build up, leading to everything from warping roofing materials to mold growth and ice damming in the winter.

The fascia boards were also worn, leaving gaps where water could leak in. Add to that aging eavestrough no longer directing water away from the home effectively, and you’ve got a recipe for long-term structural damage if left unchecked.

Our Expert Approach

To preserve the character of the home while dramatically improving performance, we took a strategic and customized approach:

• Ventilation First: We carefully drilled vent holes into the existing wood soffits to create the airflow needed for a healthy attic. This step ensures proper temperature regulation and moisture escape which is essential for preventing costly roof damage down the line.
• Custom Aluminum Soffit & Fascia Installation: We installed high-quality aluminum soffit panels designed for durability, clean aesthetics, and most importantly low maintenance. The matching fascia adds structural strength while sealing the roof edge from moisture intrusion.
• Upgraded Eavestroughs: Old eavestrough can often sag, clog, or leak- especially during Ontario’s freeze-thaw cycles. We replaced the eavestrough system with a seamless aluminum setup that efficiently channels rain away from the foundation.
